3 Reasons a Longer Engagement is Better

So you have recently gotten engaged and are starting to plan your wedding. Congratulations. While you may have some pressing reasons to want to hold the wedding as soon as possible, there are several reasons you should wait a little longer.

Success-

Research shows that long engagements result in lower divorce rates. There are two reasons for this. First, the twitterpated feeling wears off. It is no longer “Everything is cute, even leaving the toilet seat up.” This is about the amount of time you need to be with someone before you start to be annoyed by their habits. These are the same habits you will live with for the rest of your life, so good to find out now rather than later. Second, you both get to spend a number of holidays with the in-laws. Seeing the family you are marrying into will give you some insight into who your future spouse is.

Planning-

A wedding is anything but a small event. Even if you plan on a small wedding, it will take an army to make it happen without a hitch. Friends can handle a lot of things for a wedding, but it is often better to hire professionals who spend all of their time doing this type of thing. What could take you and your friends hours to do, may take a pro only thirty minutes. Is it worth the head ache? Find the perfect location before you start booking your vendors. Some vendors book a year or more in advance.

Budget-

You have a vision of the perfect wedding in your head. Shouldn’t reality match your fantasy? The only way that will happen is if you plan on how you will spend your money carefully. Is it better to have your wedding today or wait a few months and get the wedding of your dreams? Pushing the date out a year or more can allow you and your fiancee to save money for the vendors you really want, or even the honeymoon of your dreams. What it really comes down to is what you two find important. A quick party now thrown together, or an awesome party a year out that makes people say wow.

Good luck in your planning and we pray you and your fiancee have an awesome marriage.
